शीतल-शीतल, मंद-मंद सी
बहें पवन-समीरें
मतवारी कुछ और सर्द सी
आएँ मुझ को घेरें
क्षणभर को तो मैं भी
मोह के बंधन से छुट जाता
कभी हृदय, मन को कभी
बस इतना समझाता
चंद्र, कोकिला और सुमन
उपमान सभी वैसे हैं
अलंकार, रस, छंद सकल
ज्यों-के-त्यों, तैसे हैं
फिर मन तू उपमेय के कारण
इन सबको खोता है
क्यों जीवन को जान मरण
यूँ घुट-घुटकर रोता है
समझाते – समझाते मन को
जब मैं थक सा जाता
अधरों पर मुस्कान लिए
उस ओर दृष्टि घुमाता
अवश्य सुखमय जीवन होगा
मेरा ना सही उसका तो
फिर एक बार छवि उसकी
इन आंखों में तैराती
फिर एक रात मैं मन को
मन मुझको समझाता

Sheetal-sheetal, mand-mand si
Bahein pavan-sameeren
Matvaari kuch aur sard si
Aayen mujh ko gheren
Kshanbhar ko to main bhi
Moh ke bandhan se chhut jaata
Kabhi hriday, man ko kabhi
Bas itna samjhata
Chandra, kokila aur suman
Upamaan sabhi waise hain
Alankaar, ras, chand sakal
Jyon-ke-tyon, taise hain
Phir man tu upmey ke kaaran
In sabko khota hai
Kyon jeevan ko jaan maran
Yoon ghut-ghutkar rota hai
Samjhate–samjhate man ko
Jab main thak sa jaata
Adharon par muskaan liye
Us or drishti ghumata
Aavashya sukhmay jeevan hoga
Mera na sahi uska to
Phir ek baar chhavi uski
In aankhon mein tairati
Phir ek raat main man ko
Man mujhko samjhata
